Philosophy of Care
At Modern Health, we believe healthcare should be personalized, educational, and focused on helping individuals understand the factors influencing their health—not simply managing symptoms after problems arise.
Our mission is to support men and women at every stage of their health journey by providing thoughtful, evidence-based care that emphasizes prevention, education, and long-term wellness. We strive to create an environment where clients feel heard, informed, and empowered to make confident decisions about their health.
Unlike traditional volume-based healthcare models, Modern Health prioritizes time, education, and individualized attention. We believe meaningful health improvements often require a deeper understanding of lifestyle, hormones, metabolism, nutrition, sleep, stress, and other interconnected factors that influence overall well-being.
Modern Health does not participate with insurance plans. While insurance plays an important role in many aspects of healthcare, it is often designed to support diagnosis and treatment of established disease rather than the comprehensive evaluation and preventative strategies many individuals seek. Operating independently allows the flexibility to spend more time with clients, offer expanded educational resources, and provide a more personalized approach to care.
Our program fees reflect the resources required to responsibly operate a telehealth practice, maintain high clinical standards, and pursue ongoing education. Continuous learning allows us to remain current with evolving research and provide recommendations that are evidence-based, clinically relevant, and focused on each client's unique needs.
We recognize that every individual has different goals, priorities, and healthcare budgets. Our services are designed for those who value a collaborative approach and are interested in gaining a deeper understanding of their health through personalized guidance, education, and structured support.
At its core, Modern Health is about partnership. The goal is to equip clients with the knowledge, tools, and confidence needed to make informed decisions and create sustainable changes that support long-term health and well-being.
Jackie McDonald, DNP, IFMCP
Jackie’s work in hormone replacement therapy began with her own search for answers. When perimenopausal symptoms began affecting her quality of life, she quickly discovered what many women experience—being told their symptoms were “normal,” while feeling anything but. That experience shaped her mission: to help women and men feel heard, supported, and restored.
Now retired from full-time traditional practice, Jackie’s work through Modern Health is purpose-driven rather than profit-driven. Her goal is not to build a large for-profit practice, but to provide personalized, root-cause guidance that helps clients regain their health as efficiently as possible.
Jackie views her role as a collaborator in her clients’ healthcare—not a replacement for their primary care provider or specialists. Her goal is to help identify contributing factors, stabilize symptoms, and then transition clients back to their established medical providers whenever possible so they can continue their care within the traditional healthcare system and utilize their insurance benefits.
Jackie is a lifetime member of the BHRT Training Academy in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she developed advanced expertise in truly individualized hormone replacement therapy. She believes effective hormone care is never one-size-fits-all and that each treatment plan must be tailored to a person’s unique biology, symptoms, and stage of life.
As the principal owner of Modern Health, LLC, Jackie helps women and men uncover the root causes of their health concerns, with a special focus on perimenopause and menopause. Her approach to functional medicine was deeply shaped by the loss of her mother, who appeared healthy until a sudden diagnosis of stage 4 renal cell cancer took her life within three months. Despite receiving excellent conventional care, Jackie recognized the need for a more preventive and comprehensive approach—one that looks beyond symptoms to address the underlying drivers of disease.
Before founding Modern Health, Jackie spent twelve years as a nurse practitioner in gynecologic oncology at St. Dominic’s, caring for women through some of their most vulnerable moments. She earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice from the University of Alabama at Birmingham, where her research focused on hereditary cancer mutations. Knowing that genetics is only one piece of the health puzzle, Jackie pursued advanced training with the Institute for Functional Medicine and completed additional education with the Society for Senescence Research & Practice (SSRP), the gold standard in peptide and cellular medicine.
Jackie’s collaborating physician is Michael Sanders, MD.
Outside of practice, Jackie enjoys golfing with her husband, Bryan, spending time with family and friends, and taking long walks with their two Portuguese Water Dogs, Dix and Maddy.
